Sandálias de Pele de Porco
© João Penalva
Sandálias de pele de porco presents a new version of the 1999 play by João Penalva titled Wallenda in which the artist whistled The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky in its entirety.
In this version João Penalva juxtaposes the history and process of his own venture with the experience of other artists who, as dancers, performed this piece of music that revolutionized the history of music and dance in the 20th century in Paris's Théâtre des Champs Elysées, back in 1913.
Sandálias de pele de porco combines voice, video projections, texts and recorded sound, continuing a tradition of revisitation to this unique piece of music.
With Annabelle Barnes, Catarina Lourenço and Brent Williamson — dancers at Companhia Nacional de Bailado and Rui Lopes Graça.
